| A Walk Down Nield String
Spring is edging fields and roads
With warm brown earth lace
I stand at the junction
Of a dog's bark and magpie's squawk
Floating over the crusty white fields
A willow bush stands in a rosette
Of wakening meadow
A pair of Canada geese
Together for life
Browse the margin of a meltpond
Their domestic gossip
Drifting to my jealous ear
Faint filigrees of sight and sound
Warm above the chill
And grow more distinct each morning
In a life that is finally worth the living |
